Lake Nipissing Whitefish Fishing
Whitefish are a greatly underrated game fish. They give up a great fight and when cooked properly, they taste fantastic.
There are lots of Whitefish in Lake Nipissing and they get big. Generally most Whitefish get caught in the spring or while ice fishing. Just after the ice is out, Whitefish come to the surface and wait for the May Fly hatch. As soon as the May Flies finish hatching in late May or early June, the Whitefish go deep. People do catch them while Walleye fishing in the spring but generally most are caught in the winter through the ice.
With a sports license, you can keep 12 Whitefish. They are common in the 1 to 4 pound range so that's a lot of meat you can take home. Whitefish in the 10 to 12-pound range have been taken.
